Values

The community at Sol y Valle prioritizes the following values: â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

LOVE
Love is the essence of all our other values. To us it means the following:

  • Support of the community: We do what is needed for each member and the collective of our community to thrive.

  • Generosity: The more generous, the more valuable.

  • Solidarity: We laugh and cry together, we help each other and support the weak.

  • Self-respect: We must be proud of our journey, if we are to genuinely love others.

  • Respect for others: We have similarities and differences, and that is OK.

  • Goodwill: We understand that mistakes happen by chance, not by maliciousness.

  • Equity: We strive to be fair and impartial.

SUSTAINABILITY
All our actions are guided by the pillars of sustainability:

  • Environmental consciousness: Healthy ecosystems are the biggest gift we can give future generations. We educate ourselves, the community and guests about the importance of protecting environments.

  • Commitment: Sustainability cannot be achieved in the short term, it is a life-long commitment.

  • Responsibility: Caring for the environment is only achieved when we take personal responsibility.

  • Innovation: The capacity to create, improve and adapt is essential for creating harmony and being sustainable.

WELL-BEING

Animals, plant and human health are all important:

  • All fauna deserve a healthy environment that allows them to survive in equilibrium. Some of our harvests goes to the wild life, and we are fine with that. We strive to add biodiversity to the space and never eliminate any species ("pests" and "weeds" play important roles).

  • The flora here deserve to grow in the conditions they enjoy. Unused organic material recycled back to the plants in a closed loop. We avoid the use of petro-chemicals.

  • Humans: We consider the person with its mind, body and soul. For physical wellbeing, we nurture our bodies with colorful, nutritious organic food. Our gym is the farm and all the manual labor involved. We express ourselves through dance and movement, practice yoga/meditation, and play music around bonfires to warm the soul.

SHARING
We are happy to share our culture, knowledge, skills, ideas and dreams with each other and our guests.
Through this exchange we earn intellectual, social, experiential, cultural, and spiritual capital.

COMMUNICATION

We practice compassionate communication which entails active listening and giving all our attention to the present. It is not judging but accepting a person’s perception of reality in the moment, putting ourselves into the shoes of others and feeling empathy. It is practicing peace and non-violence while not imposing ideas onto others. In our communication we are honest, respectful and transparent.
